The Eye Treatment Unit offers individually tailored care, where surgeons select premium, multifocal and toric intraocular lenses that best suit each patient’s eyes, lifestyle, and visual needs. The hospital offers Bupa customers the full pathway cataract surgery package, which includes the surgery, mono-focal lenses and appointments before and after surgery.

The service aims to minimize waiting times, with cataract surgery available with waiting times of less than two weeks, so patients can return to living an active and fulfilling life. Operations take place in state-of-the-art operating theatres that are bright, spacious and equipped with the latest technology to support the skills of the ophthalmic surgeons.

About

Richard Antcliff trained as a doctor at The Medical College of Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital (also known as Barts) in London, qualifying in 1989. His eye surgery training was carried out at Barts, Cambridge and St Thomas’ Hospital. 

He became a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1994. He carried out a research degree at St Thomas’ Hospital into diseases of the retina under Professor John Marshall and with Professor Alan Bird at Moorfields Eye Hospital, both world experts in laser treatment and diseases of the retina. 

He has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital in Bath since the year 2000. He specialises in diseases of the retina ancataract surgery in Bath, Somerset UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. 

Richard regularly lectures to GPs, optometrists and ophthalmologists nationally and internationally, and is an editor for “Eye” the prestigious international journal of ophthalmology. Richard also travels to a charity hospital in India to carry out cataract surgery and teach doctors and optometrists.
