About

Mr David Lopes is an experienced ophthalmic surgeon, having performed over 18,000 cataract surgery procedures and over 750 vitreoretinal surgeries.

He achieved his degree in Medicine from the University of Lisbon in 2000 and subsequently completed internships at Hospital Pulido Valente and Hospital de Santa Maria, Lisbon, where he acquired expertise in the field of cataract surgery and vitreoretinal surgery.

In 2011, he went on to start and manage the Vitreoretinal Department at Hospital de Cascais where he was responsible for all the vitreoretinal activity in the ophthalmology unit. He subsequently relocated to the UK and has been performing high volume cataract surgeries for SpaMedica since 2016, and supervising cataract surgical training since 2024.

He is very experienced in complex cataract surgery and premium lens options for the management of presbyopia and astigmatism problems.
