About

Mr Ahmed El-Amir is a leading international ophthalmic surgeon. He trained at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital and at the Oxford Deanery School of Ophthalmology. Mr El-Amir is a member of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and The American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is chair of clinical governance at the Prince Charles Eye Unit, Windsor.

He founded the multi-disciplinary Harley Street Eye Clinic in 2014 to provide world-class ophthalmological treatment and patient care. He has a special interest in surgical treatment of retinal disorders, vitreo-retinal surgery, the latest techniques in small-incision cataract surgery and premium lens implant surgery.

After qualifying in medicine from the Charing Cross and St Mary’s hospitals, London in 2001, his potential in the field of ophthalmology and retinal disorders was recognised by being mentored under Professor Bird in the Professorial Unit of Moorfields Eye Hospital. He went on to gain a commendation from The Royal College of Ophthalmologists for the Duke-Elder undergraduate prize in ophthalmology.

Mr El-Amir was then selected to undertake Moorfield’s specialist surgical training and became Head of House. He published this experience in Advances in Ophthalmology in 2012, in a chapter voted the best by the editors. Mr El-Amir continues with a vitreo-retinal surgical, cataract and premium lens surgical practice at the Royal Berkshire and King Edward VII hospitals, in particular specialising in complex conditions requiring dedicated long-term care. Mr El-Amir is the chair of clinical governance at the Prince Charles Eye Unit, Windsor.
