Mr Tom Kersey

About

Mr Tom Kersey is a Consultant Ophthalmologist practising across Surrey, Berkshire, and Hampshire. He is an advanced cataract surgeon and one of the few surgeons in the UK who has dual fellow‑trained in both Glaucoma and Oculoplastic Surgery. He is widely recognised for providing exceptional medical and surgical care across all areas of ophthalmology, with the majority of patients referred through personal recommendation.

Mr Kersey graduated from St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry. His ophthalmic specialist training was undertaken in London, Oxford, New Zealand, and the Westcountry. From 2012 to 2024, he served as Lead Glaucoma Consultant at Frimley Park Hospital, where he developed a modern, high‑volume glaucoma service and introduced minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques and modern selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT).

He has played a significant role in ophthalmic education, introducing and leading Virtual Reality Cataract Surgery Training across the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex Deanery. Mr Kersey has helped develop evidence‑based training programmes using state‑of‑the‑art EyeSi virtual reality simulation technology, alongside home simulation kits for junior doctors.

His teaching experience includes training many surgeons who are now established consultants across the UK, as well as delivering national and international surgical workshops in cataract, glaucoma, and oculoplastic surgery. With more than 25 published scientific articles and regular participation at national and international meetings, Mr Kersey maintains a strong academic interest in emerging research, technology, and innovation in eye care.
