The Vision Surgeon

Colchester eye centre, Turner Road, 1st floor Colchester Primary Care Centre,
Colchester

About the practice

At The Vision Surgeon we are a specialist, consultant-led clinic based in Colchester, offering advanced lens replacement surgery with a clear focus on achieving true spectacle independence rather than simply treating cataract. Every patient pathway is designed around individual visual goals, lifestyle and long-term outcomes.

The clinic offers a full refractive approach to lens surgery, including premium multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses, femtosecond laser-assisted techniques and the option of laser enhancement where needed. This breadth of capability means patients are not restricted to a single treatment model, but benefit from a tailored strategy designed to optimise visual quality and reduce dependence on glasses.

Care is delivered in a highly personalised setting, with continuity from consultation through to surgery and aftercare. Patients travel from across Essex, East Anglia and beyond for a more considered, specialist approach to vision correction – combining advanced technology with consultant-led decision making at every stage.

About

Mr Hatch Mukherjee is a prize-winning consultant ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon specialising in lens replacement, laser vision correction and complex corneal surgery. He is one of a small number of UK surgeons to hold the FWCRS (Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgeons), alongside CertLRS certification in laser refractive surgery, reflecting recognised subspecialist expertise in vision correction.

He has undertaken triple fellowship training in cornea, glaucoma and refractive surgery at leading centres including Cambridge, King’s College Hospital London and University Hospital Wales. This unusually broad and advanced training allows him to approach lens replacement not simply as cataract surgery, but as a refractive procedure aimed at maximising visual performance and reducing dependence on glasses.

As founder of the NHS laser eye surgery service at Colchester Eye Centre and a UK pioneer in advanced corneal and refractive techniques, Mr Mukherjee combines surgical precision with a highly personalised approach. Every patient is assessed and treated directly by him, ensuring continuity of care and a treatment plan focused on achieving the best possible visual outcome for each individual.
